Michael Roycroft, MA, LPC
I was born in Wilmington, NC and raised for most of my childhood in Georgetown, SC. I moved to Florence, SC in 2003, at age 37, to begin my second-career in the helping profession after spending 14 years as the co-owner of a retail and mail-order business. I earned a master's degree from The Citadel, College of Graduate and Profession Studies after completing my internship at a Residential Treatment Facility in Florence, SC. I am a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). In the past, I worked for a Residential Treatment Facility, public-school district and for an outpatient, private-practice prior to joining LifeCare Psychology Group. I am the proud father of two sons, Parker and Bennett. I enjoy various activities including sharing a good meal or movie with my sons, sailing, jet-skiing, dual-sport motorcycle riding, and traveling. I am a member of and enjoy attending worship-services at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC.
What Is Working With Mr. Roycroft Like?
I approach psychotherapy from a blend of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy approaches, depending on the needs of the patient during any given session. My desire is for patients to learn how to develop skills for identifying, challenging, and changing distorted thinking and irrational beliefs and as well as developing distress tolerance skills as a result of experiencing overwhelming (often destructive) emotions. I believe the degree by which we develop these skills will determine the quality of our personal lives and relationships with others.
